Satellite imagery in your loungeroom

sorry to some people... but this is so ultimately cool that its not funny...It requires cable internet and a reasaonble graphics card to run... but my goodness... its cool

its called Google earth. Essentially its satellite image in which you can ZOOM into places... so much so that you can potentially see your house from there.
http://earth.google.com/
It is about 10 megabytes to download and the requirements are there... but it is rediculously cool.
I've found my house, and Tim Pedley's house. I found sydney uni, and the opera house and the harbour bridge.

I found the start of the great wall of china...
This thing is THAT cool!

no more than a street directory I guess. It's not up-to-date... this stuff is taken several days ago...single pass - non updateable shot- so its not like it's watching you now or anything. Also stalkers can't find your house any easier this way... so I think its all cool :)

I think it equivelent to a really really cool street directory - but with so much more in terms of coolness

FLIPPIN' AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!

creepy it would be if I could see my datsun parked in the backyard. Unfortunately, this was the first thing I tried, and I failed.

I reckon golf courses look way funny! Particularly the ones in south-eastern London...

without being scary... I have found Sonia's and Katie's houseminding house on the satellite.

also - if you get the chance - look up New york city... but turn on the 3d buildings mode..

then tilt it around while zoomed in at around 300 metres... its absolutely amazing.

I find anything truly awesome that can not only show me the location of Lin's Chinese Restaurant, 32 23rd St, New York, but also gives me the phone number so I can ring ahead... hahaha! I laff... new toy is good!
